No mom likes a mess. But it's time we accept that kids will be kids and their rooms are subject to clutter. What can be done about it? Check out this step-by-step guide.
Have a "get rid of day" with your child and have them shake out all the shelves and throw all the stuff out of the closet into one pile. Sort through the papers and try on all the clothes. Then, the unneeded stuff can be thrown out or sold. The first step to achieving a decent room is complete.
Now comes the most fun part. Organizing the space. You and your child should make a list of everything you might need to sort things: plastic boxes, cups. Think outside the box! The closet can have a small box dedicated for socks. Perhaps you already have some boxes in your house, and you can let your child color them to his or her liking.
A child's room must have a workspace. We think no one likes seeing a sheet of homework on the dining room table. The challenge is to organize not only the room, but also the desk. Make a separate compartment for homework sheets. Add cups for pencils. Have each pull-out shelf be for one thing, like biology. Most importantly, don't forget the walls. You can hang a shelf there and put motivational photos or place your favorite books.
Now for the hardest part. Put all the sorted things in their places. Let the child do this on their own. That way they won't be constantly asking you, "Mom, where are my socks?" Let them organize their belongings so that they know where everything is.
